Where's Paul?
Paul’s office – which literally overlooks a battlefield – is located in Fairfax, Virginia, adjacent to the site of the Battle of Chantilly/Ox Hill. This battle occurred 1 September 1862, and marked the end of the Second Manassas Campaign.
Maj. Gen. “Stonewall” Jackson’s wing of the Army of Norther Virginia turned north after Second Manassas and threatened Union Maj. Gen. John Pope’s line of retreat near the Fairfax Court House. Parts of each army met at Ox Hill. The battle was fought in a torrential downpour, which made gunpowder essentially useless.
After the battle, Union forces retreated to defend Washington DC, while Confederate forces turned north, to meet the Union again, sixteen days later, in the battle of Antietam.
